Why should you make sure your contractor is insured?

If you have a crew working on your roof and someone working has an accident or falls off, you may be liable for their injuries and could be sued for more than your homeowner’s policy covers.

As a homeowner, you are always liable for the safety of any person on (or in) your property. Your homeowner’s insurance should cover you for that liability (depending on your policy). For example, if you have a guest visit and they slip and fall, you could be sued.

As an insured contractor, we have a policy covering any injuries on your property while working there. Many contractors are not responsible enough to carry this insurance. This is why it's important to check your contractor's credentials.

Also, it is worth noting that holding an RCAT license requires a roofing contractor to carry commercial liability insurance, which is another reason why you should always verify a roofer’s RCAT license before contracting with them.

You can do this on the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas website.
